Photos of fruit arrangements taken by Roger Rowley

Fruit Plate Project - http://www.fruitplate.org/

The Fruit Plate project is a beautiful set of 200 photographs of fruit arrangements made for his children's breakfast. He thought that arranging the fruit in an interesting way would encourage his kids to eat more fruit.  Roger's second intent was to continue making art.

Our Journey to Health

My husband and I just saw the film "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" with Joe Cross. It was mind-blowing. Made me sit and re-think or want to "Reboot" as John says.

My husband and I looked at each other and decided then and there to recommit to eating less sweets and junk food. Yes, sorry to say that we are junkies. Junkies for junk food, sweets, and chips.

Our habit is out of control. Dollar store visits multiple times a week and munching all the time.

Now, I follow a strict Paleo diet during the week but need to detox from the junk foods.

While we are not obese, we have become a bit soft around the waist lately. Yuck! Doesn't feel good at all. We've just been in denial about it...refusing to talk about it.

So, Day 1 is down. I ate 3 meals today of fruits, veggies and nuts. Back to my strict Paleo blueprint. We are in it together. For our own reasons and needs but in this together.

More to come...

RECIPE: Easy Soup Mirepoix

What is Mirepoix? I had been hearing this for years and never knew what it was. The word Mirepoix is French and is pronounced like "mirra-pwa". It is a mixture of chopped carrots, onions and celery that is mainly used to flavor soups, sauces and stocks.

You can use this simple mixture to flavor any type of meat and soup base. It is easy to make and remember in addition to being nutritious. Oftentimes, I add broth, garlic, ginger and butter in my mixture.

RECIPE: Revved Up Coleslaw

Do you like cabbage? Here's a recipe for a revved up version of a classic coleslaw. I pack my coleslaw with mixed greens, red onions and olives to make it more robust. This recipe is  simple, easy to make and can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

RECIPE: Very Berry Fruit Salad

Fruit salad is an essential part of my eating healthy lifestyle. I love having fruit at any time of the day but mainly in the morning with eggs. Since, I don't eat carbs often, I usually start my day with scrambled eggs or an omelet followed by a fruit smoothie or fruit salad.

In this post, I share my favorite fruit salad.
