5 Things I Do to Start My Day

When I wake up every morning, I do 5 things to start my day. I have an index card on the side of my bed with a list. This helps me to remember the order so that it is a ritual for good health. I like doing these activities because it helps "set" my day.  I created these habits to give me a sense of ownership over my health.

These activities are also good for balancing my mind and body to help me all day long. They are:

- Say a gratitude prayer -
I like to thank my Higher Power for waking me up and for the day I will have. It is a positive affirmation of the good, productive day to come.

- Do my back exercises -
I was hit in a car by a drunk driver in my '20's. As a result, my back has been damaged in a few places. Without the exercises to keep it strong and flexible, I wouldn't have the mobility to the things in the day that I need to.

- Walk my treadmill -
This activity is mainly to keep my weight stable and my back healthy. I've set up a corner in my bedroom with a calendar to track the days I walk. Read about my "badge" system HERE.

- Drink water -
I keep a bottle of room temperature water by my bedside. For me, room temperature water is easy to take than cold water first thing in the morning and helps move your bowels faster.

- Eat Breakfast -
Eating breakfast sets me up for a good day. I didn't start off as a breakfast person until I began a Paleo lifestyle. I've learned that when I eat breakfast, I have a better day in terms of energy and stamina. Some eggs, smoothie or leftovers from dinner are the best choices for me.
