Lose weight with a weekend soup

If you're like me, you eat great during the week but go CRAZY once the weekend comes around.  Before switching to a Paleo lifestyle, this is exactly what I used to do for a long time. Then, I realized that eating great 5 days and not on 2 days was doing me more harm than good.  For as much progress that I made during the week, having anything (which allowed me to just completely overindulge in bad choices) on the weekend was just too hard to recover from. In this post, I will discuss a great way to lose weight by eating soup on the weekends.

After following a Paleo lifestyle for a while, I decided to create a more relaxed eating regimen on the weekends that included a soup.  The first weekend that I introduced soup and salad/sandwich options instead of the typical heavy fast food, the feedback was amazing.  My family really loved the change and asked for soup for every day during the weekend.
I prepare my soup contents on Friday night and usually end up making it on Saturday morning in a slow cooker

By the time lunchtime comes, the soup has been smelling around the house and is a wonderful teaser to a great, healthy lunch.  I usually have soup and a big green salad while my family has soup with sandwiches.







 
I cycle through the following choices for my soups:
* chicken-based *
any chicken-based low-sodium soup or chicken broth
brown rice, barley or quinoa
carrots, celery, onions, scallions, garlic
chicken bullion, pepper, chives
* beef-based *
any beef-based low-sodium soup or beef broth
brown rice, barley, quinoa or cubed red potatoes (less starchy than white)
carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, ginger root
pepper, beef bullion, paprika, parsley

any tomato-based low-sodium soup or veggie broth
barley, pasta or cubed potatoes
carrots, green beans, mushrooms, onions
garlic, bay leaf, oregano


As you may notice, the above soup choices are loaded with flavorful spices and veggies.  You can make the soup "heartier" by adding more veggies or more "soupy" by using less veggies and more liquid.

Try the weekend soup to keep your appetite from running rampant.  You can have the weekend soup along with your other foods like pizza, hero sandwiches, hamburgers.  The soup will fill you up and balance your weekend meals and aid in your weight loss.
